Toledo Symphony Gears Up for April 6th Arena Debut - Over 1,000 Community Members and Students to Join in Performance of Beethoven's Ode to Joy(March 21, 2014)
Toledo, OH (PRWEB) March 21, 2014
Last fall, the Toledo Symphony proudly announced an unprecedented community musical event. ODE TO JOY: A Communitys Celebration of Music will take place April 6, 2014 at the Huntington Arena in Downtown Toledo.
The event, sponsored by Promedica and in partnership with Owens Corning, celebrates 70 Years of the Toledo Symphony and more than 1,000 talented voices from across northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan. Masterworks Chorale will serve as the lead chorus for the event.
Jessica Aeschliman directs choruses at Wauseon Jr. High and High School. About the event, she says, "I am thrilled to be able to offer my students this once in a lifetime opportunity to sing Beethoven's masterpiece with a professional orchestra. This is always a busy time of year, and I was afraid it would be one commitment too many, but because the students are so excited for the performance, they have risen to the occasion. They are attacking the challenge of the learning process with energy, focus, and professionalism that is not typical of high school students. And the intensity just continues to build as we get closer to April 6."
For 70 years, the Toledo Symphony has served as the heart of our musical communitynow, for the first time ever, the symphony has invited choruses from throughout our region to lift their voices in the inspiring Ode to Joy from Beethovens Ninth Symphony.
Toledo Symphony Principal Conductor, Stefan Sanderling, will conduct. Four talented operatic soloists will join the symphony and chorus--Jennifer Cresswell (soprano), Katherine Calcamuggio (mezzo-soporano), Shawn Mathey (tenor) and Sean David Cooper (baritone). All soloists have strong ties to the northwest Ohio community.
The following school and community choirs will be participating:

Bowling Green State University
Clay High School
Lourdes University Chorus
Maumee Valley Country Day School
St. Francis de Sales
