SiriusXM Launches "OurTime with Matthew Segal" on SiriusXM P.O.T.U.S.
NEW YORK, April 22, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --SiriusXM today announced the launch of OurTime with Matthew Segal, a new six-week series produced by and for Millennial listeners on SiriusXM P.O.T.U.S., the 24/7 non-partisan channel dedicated to the Politics of the United States. Each episode will be organized by theme and dedicated to a non-partisan discussion that offers a fresh, in-depth dialogue of issues faced by the nation today, including health care, the budget, education, LGBT equality, and voting rights.
As a Millennial, political advocate, and founder of OurTime.org, host Matthew Segal will tackle the political themes and issues that matter most to all Americans and his generation specifically. OurTime with Matthew Segal will encourage Millennial listeners to understand the wonkiest of policies, emerging social trends, and cultural issues still on the fringes by inviting influencers on the show to help translate these political and cultural themes in straightforward language.
"Millennials are fiercely independent and less attached to any political or religious institution than any previous generation, and the key to understanding what young, diverse voters look and sound like is as easy as giving them a platform to express themselves," said Scott Greenstein, President and Chief Content Officer, SiriusXM. "This is a generation that is always connected, whose exuberance has changed the face of American politics. This is a forum where fresh new insight into the issues can be discussed."
"I'm psyched to join with SiriusXM to untangle complicated political issues for my generation," said Segal. "The language used in DC is both confusing and intimidating, and I, along with my listeners, want to minimize the jargon, and better understand the practical implications of policy, without being condescended to. Each week, we'll carefully explore a new theme in depth with expert political and cultural leaders so we can have a fundamental basis of knowledge to inform our decision making. From there, we'll know who to vote out of office!"
The six-week series OurTime with Matthew Segal will begin on April 26 and air Saturdays at 2:00 pm ET on SiriusXM P.O.T.U.S., channel 124, and through the SiriusXM Internet Radio App on smartphones and other connected devices, as well as online at siriusxm.com. Subscribers will also be able to listen to the show via SiriusXM On Demand through the SiriusXM Internet Radio App for smartphones and other mobile devices and online at siriusxm.com.
OurTime with Matthew Segal will kick off its first episode with a health care theme. Segal will discuss health care costs with Governor Howard Dean and former U.S. Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle, as well as analyze health care from a birth control and women's perspective with Cecile Richards, the President of Planned Parenthood Federation of America and Planned Parenthood Action Fund.
In the coming weeks, guests will includeHouse Minority Whip Steny Hoyer of Maryland; actor, author, and social justice activist George Takei; screenwriter, film director and producer, M. Night Shyamalan; ranking Democrat on the House Budget Committee, Chris Van Hollen of Maryland; and author and trans woman rights activist, Janet Mock.
