Omnia Education Launches Final Segment in Education Initiative Regarding Hypoactive Sexual Desire Disorder, One the Most Common Sexual Dysfunctions in Women

Fort Washington, PA (PRWEB) March 27, 2014

More than 10% of premenopausal women may suffer from Hypoactive Sexual Desire Dysfunction (HSDD), and healthcare professionals often do not fully understand the disorder or misdiagnose patients. Omnia Education, the leading U.S. provider of womens health education, addresses this issue with an integrative educational initiative consisting of continuing medical education (CME) offered online, in live clinical meetings, through scholarly articles, and on radio broadcasts. Omnia Education recently launched the final segment of the education initiative as a clinical expert interview on ReachMD.

Even though HSDD is the most common sexual dysfunction in women, it is consistently misdiagnosed and mismanaged, said Dr. Sheryl Kingsberg, a professor of Psychiatry, Obstetrics and Gynecology at Case Western Reserve Hospital and one of the featured faculty on the HSDD initiative. This is significant because an inexplicable lack of desire for sexual activity, as is present in HSDD, is frustrating for many women and can have a serious effect on their relationships and quality of life.

Through in depth research and expert interviews, Omnia Education identified gaps in many healthcare professionals knowledge of HSDD. There is a significant lack of awareness specifically regarding DSM-V criteria, effective communication strategies between physicians and patients, the best diagnostic tools, and therapeutic treatment options, said Dr. Kingsberg. The goal of this education series is to effectively close those gaps and improve these patients quality of life.

This final segment in the series, offered on ReachMD, supplements the expert lectures already delivered across the country at Womens Health Annual Visit (WHAV) meetings, Omnia Educations signature live CME meetings. The HSDD initiative is both comprehensive and widely accessible, said Sean T. Saunders, CCMEP, Vice President of The Omnia-Prova Education Collaborative. With the launch of the final installment on ReachMD, those who cannot attend live meetings now have easy access to HSDD education through the multiple outlets offered on ReachMD.

The HSDD education initiative is sponsored by an independent educational grant from Sprout Pharmaceuticals and will be featured on the Omnia Education and ReachMD websites for the remainder of 2014.
