Emergency University, FAA Present Research at ECCU 2014 on Corporate CPR, AED Program that Improves Workplace Sudden Cardiac Arrest Survival Rate by 97 Percent

Drs. Braun, Holloway Announce Nationwide Program Study Results "Incorporating the General Workforce into SCA Response Plan" at Citizen CPR Foundation Event, Las Vegas (June 02, 2014)

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., June 2, 2014 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Emergency University, a trailblazer for emergency response system design, blended emergency medical training and innovative response technologies, announced today that its Medical Director Dr. Odelia Braun and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Employee Safety and Health Services Manager Tom Holloway, Ph.D., will present their research findings "Incorporating the General Workforce into your SCA Response Plan" at the Citizen CPR Foundation-Emergency Cardiac Care Update (ECCU) in Las Vegas on June 5, 2014. The speakers' presentation highlights the results of Emergency University's WorkSafe Program designed to quickly facilitate a planned, organized and practiced sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) response 100 percent of the time.

Drs. Holloway and Braun will be joined by Emergency University Director of Training Frank Poliafico, R.N., to discuss critical features of the FAA's nationwide PAD (public access defibrillation) program to ensure an effective emergency response. The program was implemented nationwide to 45,000 employees at 177 FAA facilities and included 1,100 Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs). After studying the behavioral barriers required to execute an effective emergency response, the authors developed and implemented specific targeted training programs designed to bridge gaps in training, infrastructure and technology.

"More than 330,000 Americans are the victims of an SCA every year the vast majority in their workplace or home. Even though AEDs may be available, less than three percent of bystanders actually respond to an SCA victim by administering CPR and using an AED. Survival remains a matter of luck," said Emergency University CEO Doron Braun. "Our WorkSafe Program will transform what has previously been left up to luck into a strategy of predictable success."

In addition to presenting their research, Dr. Braun will also introduce EU Alert!, Emergency University's SCA patented smartphone application that will be provided to employees as part of the company's WorkSafe Program. The application immediately alerts trained responders in the facility and pinpoints the exact location of the closest operational AED.

"Statistically, the most likely person to discover a cardiac arrest victim is an untrained bystander. With EU Alert! every employee can play a vital role by using the app to summon trained internal responders," said Braun. "As EU Alert! improves emergency response rates by 97 percent and ultimately saves lives, we consider it the "missing link" in the chain of survival."
