EAM-Mosca Installing New Polypropylene Strapping Production Line(April 30, 2014)

Despite uninspiring national economic news, EAM-Mosca's strapping business has shown steady growth in recent years, leading the company headquartered in Northeast Pennsylvania to invest in a new production line to increase its strap production capacity.
Following an investment to increase Polyester (PET) strap production capacity in 2011 and a wide Polypropylene (PP) line investment in 2012, the company is currently commissioning a new production line in its Hazle Township facility. According to President Ralph E. Morini, The new line is designed specifically for production of the high quality 5mm wide PP strapping that is used in our high-speed bundlers. We need to meet increased demand for products, including our export markets.
EAM-Mosca manufactures 5mm strapping in an embossed surface configuration in a variety of colors to meet customer requirements, as well as smooth translucent straps that allow Postal Service optical devices to see bar coded label information through the straps.
Strong sales of Mosca bundling equipment, especially to the corrugated, graphic arts, meat and poultry packing, automated warehousing and distribution, home product and other strap consuming markets, have generated increased demand for the company's strapping products and helped to justify adding to production capacity. EAM-Mosca companies in the US, Mexico and Canada along with a thriving export business to Central and South America have all capitalized on the success of the company's combined equipment, strap, parts and support based solutions.
The ability of Mosca bundling equipment to operate reliably with light-weight, low-cost 5mm and 6mm wide PP strapping has enabled EAM-Mosca to reduce customer costs by downsizing strap size, which has led to an increased demand for the narrow strap. In the past, strap selection was often dictated by the equipment's ability to move strap though a track consistently. Many machines are not designed to manage light weight straps which are less stiff and prone to curvature along their length, which can cause feed faults and process downtime. Mosca equipment, in particular the new Evolution generation with its precision engineered strap path, is built to achieve extremely high manufacturing performance with 5mm strapping. The reputation of EAM-Mosca and all Mosca Companies is largely built on this platform.
While steady sales growth has consumed all existing capacity, the nature of the market has required EAM-Mosca to pursue reinvention in terms of product performance and cost reduction. The new line at EAM-Mosca has several process improvements that we expect will improve strap operating characteristics in the area of dimensional and physical property control, camber reduction and reduced dust generation during strapping machine operation, said Chris VanDerveur, Production Manager.
As production starts later this month, EAM-Mosca looks forward to using the new capacity to improve service to existing customers while aggressively expanding sales through Mosca strapping equipment to new customers in our target market segments.
