Advanced Hydro Inc. Enters Into Patent License Agreement with Northwestern University - April 1, 2014(April 01, 2014)
Austin, TX (PRWEB) April 01, 2014
Advanced Hydro Inc., a central Texas company specializing in desalination and waste-water treatment systems, announced today that it has entered into a patent license agreement with Northwestern University. Under the terms of the agreement, Northwestern University granted exclusive worldwide rights for US Patent 8,541,060 and European Patent 07844447.8 for non-medical water remediation fields.
The licensed patents cover coating chemistry that can be used on large range of material surfaces as coating to reduce bio-fouling of the surfaces. Northwestern University will receive equity payment for the license and ongoing royalty payments for products where the technology will be implemented.
Advanced Hydro Inc., (AHI) is a central Texas (Austin, Pflugerville) company that began its operation in 2009 to commercialize a novel antifouling membrane coatings technology from the University of Texas at Austin. After several years of research and development, company has developed several products and currently provides turn-key systems for desalination of brackish groundwater, seawater, municipal wastewater and oil and gas related produced water. AHI utilizes a patented technology developed at the University of Texas at Austin in form of hydrophilic polymeric coatings on post-production MF, UF, NF and RO membranes to make them resistant to oil and organic fouling. In addition to anti-fouling coatings, AHI utilizes (patent pending) a pre-treatment solution for wastewater produced during hydraulic fracturing of gas wells (also known as Fracking). The process is designed to tackle highly variable water source with significant amounts of suspended solids, oil and grease, organics, hardness, and salinity. AHI systems boasts significantly reduced O&M costs, integrated turn-key systems with open-architecture (patent pending), high efficiency, remote operations, mobile platform and antifouling membrane coatings technology.
With addition of Northwestern technology, AHIs is now able to address bio-fouling of water treatment equipment and facilities and AHI can further leverage its expertise in anti-fouling membrane based systems for water remediation. We envision growing needs for fresh water as the most pressing and critical challenge of our times around the world, says Dr. Agnihotri, CEO of Advanced Hydro Inc.
Northwesterns Innovation and New Ventures Office (INVO) said Northwestern University is very pleased that Dr. Messersmith's versatile coating technology has been licensed to AHI and that it will be a part of AHI's water treatment products.
